Spring Week 7

Green Class

This week we have continued to look at Henri Rousseau's work. We have been learning to sketch, mix colours and to shade and tint. We have completed our work of art and we have evaluated our peers work. We will be showing some of these in Family Worship on Friday.

We celebrated Shrove Tuesday and learnt alot about the Christian festival. We found out how it has traditionally been celebrated in the 4 countries of the UK. We also made lots of pancakes. We worked on weighing, measuring and following a recipe.

This week we have been investigating the relationship between multiplication and division.
We have also been learning about 3D shapes sorting them into venn diagrams based on properties including edges, faces and vertices.

In English we have focused on the story Lost and Found. We are learning to retell the story. Next week we will be writing a story based on this book.

On Monday we went on a local walk to help us write our own poem based on 'The Sound Collector'. I have been so impressed with their poems. Please feel free to have a look in your child's book when you next visit in Green class.

In Maths we have been learning to divide and multiply using the beadstrings we made in Maths Cafe and we went on to drawing this. We looked at the method of grouping for division.

This week we have been studying the work of Henri Rousseau looking at the picture The Tiger in a Tropical Storm (The surprise) We have learnt to sketch and mix colours using paint and pastels.

Spring week 5

Spring Week 5
This week we have continued to look at the Wright Brothers and the first plane flight. We have been inventors and tried to get our plane to go the furthest. We thought about size, shape and design.

Thank you to everyone that came to our maths cafe for NSPCC number day. We loved sharing our learning with you. We will be using our bead strings in our maths lessons this year. This week we have been focusing on subtraction. We have thought about crossing the tens boundary. For example 43-36= (we have to exchange a ten for ones to be able to subtract 6 from 4) We have used base ten to do this.

For NSPCC number day we made chocolate cakes today. We measured out the ingredients and I have to say Green class are AWESOME cooks!

On Friday afternoon for number day we completed a maths question relay. We worked in groups of 4 in our house teams. We had to complete 6 rounds. Round 1- addition, round 2-subtraction, round 3-riddles, round 4- balancing scales, round 5-place value, round 6 -tallest tower using newspaper and masking tape.
Thank you to all the children and adults for raising money for the NSPCC by the donations and cake sale. I will inform you of the total once it has been counted :)

Next week: Local walk Monday 9am, if you are able to help walk please let us know.

Week 4 Spring

This week Green class have looked at addition. We have been using numicon and base ten to add 2 digit numbers to 2 digit numbers. Some of us crossed over to the next ten. For example 54+27=

In English we finished writing our stories based on the book Old Man at Sea. We have been learning the spelling rule when a word ends in y; for example to change 'hurry' into the past tense we remove the y and ad an i before adding the suffix ed. We have also looked at adding the suffix ing.

In RE we looked at the Christmas story. We ordered the pictures and then thought about how each character would have been feeling and what they would have said.

Thank you to everyone that came to drop and read it's lovely seeing so many children enjoy reading or listening to stories.

Remember Friday 7th Feb- Number day cafe. Would be lovely to see as many of you there as possible :)
