Week 4 Green class

Week 4

Green class have had a very busy week. We have been focusing on DT- food technology this week. We have tried a selection of different drop scones- like we tried at Gressenhall and then we designed our own. Trust me some of these designs were interesting- including rainbow food colouring. We then used our design to adapt a recipe and create our own drop scones. Some children used lemon, orange, raisins, chocolate chips and sugar. Some of the children created coloured drop scones adding food colouring. We then evaluated our work.

We were lucky enough to have 'out of egypt' band in for collective worship on Wednesday. Green class had an amazing time. We learnt a story through music.

This week in English we have been writing non-fiction texts about Gressenhall using what we learnt on our school trip.

In Maths we have been leaning to add. Some of us got on to adding 2 digit numbers by 2 digit numbers. We did this by partitioning the number into tens and ones. Some of us use base 10 or numicon.

We have been learning that c can make the s sound in phonics. Thank you to everyone that is supporting their child in learning their spellings.

Thank you for an awesome week again Green class!

Week 3
Green class went to Gressenhall this week. We thought about how houses have changed over time. We are going to be having a history focus for the next few weeks.
Schools have changed a lot, we looked at the changes over the last 150 times. We decided we prefer schools now :)  They didn't fancy the dunces hat nor the strict teacher!

We made some drop scones. We had to measure in ounces- which was weird as we use grams normally!

We found out washing took all day, they had to pump water (which was tricky) 10 buckets full. They also used the old washing dolly. We decided we would make less washing as each item took 10 minutes to wash.

We used carbolic soap and salt to clean the tables.

We had a super day together and loved playing on the park.
Your child does have a voucher for Gressenhall to return for free.

Thank you so much for everyone that came to the I wish morning :)

The start of Year 2

The start of Year 2

We have been looking at our homes and the local area in our topic 'Through the door'. we went for a local walk.

We used the walk to inform our understanding of maps. We have been using different things in our classroom to make a map of the roads we walked down. We have been thinking about road names and landmarks.

In English we looked at the story Door, this is a wordless picture book we acted out the story. Green class then have done some work around adjectives and speech. We will be writing this story soon.

Thank you to everyone that came to drop and read. This really helps the children to enjoy reading. Drop and read is aimed to encourage children to read for pleasure. Please try to ensure your child is heard read at least 3 time a week.

In Maths we have been looking at place value. We have been thinking about tens and ones. Below is the number 42 made using numicon and lego in tens and ones. We have also been ordering numbers.
Thank you everyone for making the start of term so lovely. A special thanks to all the helpers that come on our walk.

Notes for next week:
Gressenhall on Wednesday
