Week 7 Autumn 2

Christmas is almost here!

Thank you to both the children and adults this week! Thank you for all of your support with costumes, learning lines, coming to church, drop and read and everything else!

We hope you enjoyed our Christmas performance. The children worked so hard learning lines and learning songs. Well done to all of you!

I am so proud of how thoughtful Green class are... I hope you agree... It was so lovely hearing what Christmas meant to them in church with their poem. I really loved hearing about all their traditions they have at home. I wish you all a merry Christmas and hope you enjoy all your traditions  this year! Green class are so kind and caring and really helped with our younger children on Friday at Church but also back at school getting them ready for Christmas lunch and helping them make Christmas crowns.

We enjoyed walking to the Christmas Tree Festival on Wednesday at St.Mary's Church. The children took photographs using ipads of the trees they liked the most.  Thank you to St Mary's church for providing Green class with squash and biscuits and even a cuppa for the adults! We really enjoyed it. Thank you to all the adults that helped walk the children there! As always Green class- super behaviour :)

Well done to all the children that were invited to afternoon tea with Mrs Butcher for your amazing attendance. The children had cakes, biscuits and squash along with playing some party games like pass the parcel!

Top marks website also have some good games for lines of symmetry

Thank you to all the grown ups that come and stay for 'stay and play' on Wednesday morning. Although the children are playing games it's a really important part of their learning to help strengthen their maths skills. The children are learning while playing games.

Green class all wish you a very Merry Christmas and are thankful for all the things you do at home.

Just showing off our cheeky side :)

On Thursday we had Year 5/6 visit from Catfield and worked on our Vision statement; friendship, kindness and trust! We all worked together and enjoyed playing board games together in the morning.

We have also been working on dividing by sharing.

Week 3 Autumn 2

Week 3 Autumn 2

During the week we have got underway with nativity rehearsals. We have all been working hard to learn our songs in school. Please help your child learn their lines at home. We have finished our stories based on Vlad-The Great Fire of London. We have been learning to measure milliliters and liters. We acted like Florence Nightingale who we learnt about last year measuring the correct amount of medicine for patients.

For Children in Need we worked in our house teams and we went around 4 activities. We did team sports, decorating biscuits, making Pudsey ears and a 'Where's Pudsey?' treasure hunt.

We have moved on to multiplication. We call this groups of, lots of, times and multiply. Please encourage your child to practice some at home. We have been drawing hoops and putting that many dots in each hoop. For example 3x4= 12 we draw 3 hoops and put 4 dots in each hoop.

Thank you for all the money you helped us raise for Children in Need!

On Wednesday we went to Norwich Cathedral. We made stain glass windows and found out about the building.

Jessie dressed as the bishop.

We lit a candle and said a prayer.

We listened to the story of the Good Shepard.

I am so pleased to say not only the staff but members of the public commented on how amazing our behaviour was!

We have been learning about apostrophes this week both for possession (Archie's hat) and for contractions (do not- don't)

Autumn 2 Week 1

Week 1 Autumn 2

In Maths this week we have been learning about height and length. We have been using cm, m and mm. This may be something you wish to practice at home as some of us found it quite tricky. We have recorded it for example: 4cm, 2.3 cm, 7mm or 12m.

During the afternoons this week we have been doing Science we have been looking at properties of materials. We have considered the BIG question: What materials would be good to build a house? We looked at lots of properties for example translucent, transparent, opaque, waterproof, dull and shiny.

Thanks to the children that came to hamma bead club- we had a wonderful time. Different children will be selected each week. This gives all children a chance of coming and a choice not to do it.

In English we have been looking at the story Vlad and the Great Fire of London. In the next few weeks the children will be writing their own stories. We have looked at the ed suffix, the spelling rule le, el and al. We have also been looking at the spelling rule wr, gn and kn.

Wow- I was really impressed with all Green classes home learning! The children have new home learning in their book due 6th January 2019.

Remember next week: Cathedral trip Wednesday

week 7

Week 6
Thank you to Green class for another amazing week. They have worked so hard. We have really enjoyed preparing for Harvest Festival at church this week. The children were really amazing at learning the harvest songs and really impressed me in their performance of these :) They also worked hard at preparing their part of the poem which was done independently- they came up with some super ideas. Thank you to all the grown ups that attended church :)

Thank you to everyone that came to reading cafe-which we did outside. The children loved having all the grown ups here and so did I :) The work the children did around leaf man was really great. Here are some photos of our leaf man pictures that were made in the forest schools area at reading cafe. Some people asked for the pumpkin soup recipe link: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7730/pumpkin-soup

We also loved seeing Mrs Bowen and asking lots of questions about her baby. Thank you so so so much Mrs B for coming- we had the best time!

This week in maths we have been learning about block diagrams and pictograms. If your child would like to practice over the holidays this is a useful link :)

Your child will have their spelling test on Monday. I have not given new spellings as home learning is due after the holidays.

Enjoy half term :)

Week 6

Week 6

What a super week again Green class! Green class have been very busy this week.

We have been learning a scientific enquiry technique; Researching. On Wednesday we joined with Orange class and began to research our big question ' What happened in 1666?' The children worked hard listening to voice messages, using lap tops, looking at objects, reading and highlighting facts. Year 2 helped the Year 1's with the reading and writing. It really highlighted how grown up they were. Ask your child about some of the facts they learnt. They found out about the houses, when/where the fire started and lots of other facts.

In English we have been writing our own newspaper reports. (Pictures will follow) Please feel free to have a read of them in drop and read next time :)

In Maths we have focused on patterns. We have been describing patterns we have made. We have also been spotting patterns in numbers. This will help us with our counting in 2,3,5,10's.

Thank you to everyone that came to parents evening. Anyone that didn't make it please feel free to make an alternative appointment.

Reading cafe next week, it would be lovely to see you all there. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty with some wellies/books/trainers we are going to be doing it in the Forest schools area.
Harvest church service next Friday :)
